Wireframe Rendering

In this Maya tutorial we will learn how to create wireframe rendering.

1. Create your object. In this tutorial I use sphere just for example.

2. make sure you already loaded vector render. If you not yet loaded vector render go to window > settings/preferences > Plug-in Manager and check VectorRender.mll.

3. Go to render setting. Change render using Maya Vector. Uncheck Fill Object (optional). Check Include edges and set Edge style to Entire Mesh.

4. Select camera you want use for rendering, in this tutorial I use perspective camera.

5. After we select the camera then go to attribute editor by pressing “ctrl+a” or click icon on right top of screen (see image below). Now change background color to white (this optional because we set edge color to black on render setting).

6. Now render it and this is the result.

wireframe rendering

Render result look difference not like wireframe in real time, but for me this result not change my 3d model, so is OK me but I don’t know for you?

Thanks has joined in my Maya tutorial I hope this tutorial can help you. Bye…

I have a easier way to do it without using vectors and using mental ray in 2009.

-make a use background shader
-specular color black
-reflection 0
-reflection limit 0
-shadow mask 0
-matte opacity mode to solid matte
-then go to the shader group for the shader
-under contours check enable contour rendering and make the width as u want it to be
-go to render settings
-make sure its mental ray for type and go to features
-at the bottom is contours and check enable contour rendering
-go to draw by property difference and check around all poly faces
