WIP (Work In Progress) Rendering

WIP Rendering or Work In Progress Rendering I used for rendering 3d model before I enter to texturing process. Why I must use this? Hard to explain but you must see this render result.

This is rendering of my drawer chest. I’m just rendering with mental ray and all attributes I set default. Now compare with my WIP render.

WIP (Work In Progress) Rendering

For me this more smooth and like clay render. How I create this image? Follow these steps.

1. I use my drawer chest for this tutorial, you can use your 3d model.

2. Create polygon sphere, delete half of faces on the bottom, and reverse normals. Create polygon plane. And set all objects like image below.

3. Because our 3d model not finishes yet, we must create a layer for saving our sphere and plane. So if we going to texturing process, we can hide sphere and plane. The layer I name it WIP_layer.

4. Create three lamberts material. Mat_wip for drawer chest material, mat_plane for plane material, and mat_sphere for sphere material.

5. This attributes for every lamberts material. Mat_plane and mat_wip color you can set as you like.

6. Now we edit the render settings. First uncheck enable default light. In mental ray tab, check global illumination and set accuracy to 1000. Check final gather and set accuracy to 1024. More high accuracy value, takes more long rendering time.

And this is result of my WIP rendering

Thanks has joined in my Maya tutorial, I hope this can help you.
