Modeling Car – New Mini Cooper

Welcome in my tutorial. This time we will do modeling car by the way of me. Many ways for modeling car hopefully way of I can assist you.

I’m downloaded the picture from suurland.com (thank you so much).

Note: smoothing polygon use poly to subdivision and back to polygon use subdivision to polygon with tessellation method vertices on.

My workflow is applying curve and accommodates it with reference picture then applies birail 2 to make polygon. I divide to become 3 bodywork for modeling car. Front (red), middle (blue) and back(green)

Front Body

Create curves for front body. It’s free how much curves you create.

If you finish with curves. Now time to create polygon. Go to birail 2 option and change geometry output to polygon. Type: Quad, Tessellation method:General, initial Tessellation controls Number U and Number V = 1. Check the curve, rail curves must have same span you can use rebuilt curve to change it. Example if first rail curve have 4 span and second rail curve have 3 span you must rebuilt second curve and change the span to 4. Use same way for profile curves.

Use same technique to create another polygons object.

Remember you don’t need to combine all polygons object. See picture below. Different color is different polygons.

Now time to make detail. We start from front light. Shape the vertex’s following the picture.

And the result like picture below.

Select faces on front light. Extrude and scale it down. Keep select the faces and extract it from the hood. Select the front light, extrude and scale it down. Keep select the faces and extract the front light form ring front light.

Create
ring for front light. Select ring front light and extrude it to z direction. Scale the front light (you can smooth ring and front light and then scale it - “center pivot first”). For last work in front light select ring and front light and scale it together.

And the result for head light is like picture below.

You can add detail for hood like picture below.

For create plat on every corner of polygon, we must add edges every side of polygon object.

See the different before and after add edges. The corner is more flat after we add edges.

Add edges every side of polygon objects.

Now create crease effect between polygon objects. Select the hood, extract to z direction, delete faces and add edges.

Do it same technique for another polygon objects.

See the crease effect.

Create crease effect for each polygon object

And this the result for front body

You can create grill from cube.

You can create inside grill from plane.

IT’S SOMETHING WHICH LONG ELUDED ME: HOW TO MAKE FLAT SURFACES IN MAYA, YET IT’S SO SIMPLE……..THANKYOU FOR MAKING ME ‘SEE THE LIGHT’ AFTER MUCH ‘HAIR-PULLING’.
