Learn Nonlinear Deformers Part II- Flare

May 28th, 2008

At this tutorial we will learn how to using Flare Deformer. There are some parameter in Flare Deformer which I will not explain, because I already explains in Part I.

The parameters or attributes in Flare deformer is:

  1. Envelope.
  2. Start Flare X and Z: determine flare at Low Bound as according to axis (X or Z).
  3. End Flare X and Z: determine flare at High Bound as according to axis (X or Z).
  4. Curve: determine the curvature.
  5. Low Bound and High Bound.

Explanation

Create a cube then chooses Flare Deformer.

If you arranged End Flare value hence Low Bound area of cube will change.

If you arranged End Flare value hence High Bound area of cube will change.

If you arranged Curve value hence part between High Bound and Low Bound will change.

For Modeling

I have some examples to apply Flare Deformer. One of them is modeling a whirligig very fast.

Create a cylinder and choose flare deformer.

Then changes attribute from flare deformer like picture below.

Result is like picture below.

Other function from Flare Deformer is you can change glass object to become bowl very fast.

You can make glass object by using curve then revolve the curve or with cylinder polygon. For this example I apply curve which I turn into a glass object.

Select glass object then chooses Flare Deformer.

Arranges the parameters value of Flare Deformer like picture below.

You also can modeling a bell with Flare Deformer.

Create a cylinder then create hole on the bottom of cylinder with extrude.

Select cylinder then chooses Flare Deformer and arranges the parameter values of Flare Deformer like picture below.

This the result.

You also can make cover of standing Lamp from object glass with Flare Deformer.

I have never applied Flare Deformer to make animation, thus there is no tutorial animation for Flare Deformer.

Thank has joined in second part of Learn Nonlinear Deformers tutorial. Next tutorial is Learn Nonlinear Deformers Part III - Sine.
