Learn Maya 3D Nonlinear Deformers Part VI – Wave Deformer

This is last series from Nonlinear Deformer series. Wave deformer hardly suited for making animation expanding ring of ripple. To apply wave I recommend that you to apply high resolution object. Wave has some attributes, that is:

  1. Envelope
  2. Amplitude: determines amount of wave
  3. Wavelength: determines number of frequencies wave
  4. Offset: determines position of wave
  5. Dropoff: determines position of wave handle
  6. Dropoff Position: determines how far effect from dropoff
  7. Min Radius: determines where wave is started
  8. Max Radius: determines where wave is end

Explenation

Create a polygon plane with subdivision width and height 50. Select the plane and choose wave deformer.

Now set amplitude to 0.1 or -0.1, you will see form of plane will change.

Set Wavelength to 0.5 hence frequency from wave will increase, if you set value wavelength smaller hence frequency wave would continuously increase.

If you set ever greater wavelength value hence frequency amounts increasingly a few.

If you set offset value hence amplitude wave will make a move up and down.

If you set dropoff to 1 hence every side polygon plane will not make a move. But if you set dropoff to - 1 hence wave handle would centrally in the middle.

If you set Dropoff Position to 1 hence handle from dropoff would smaller.

If you set Min Radius to 0.5 or ever greater hence handle from wave would ever greater.

If you set Max Radius to 0.4 hence wave handle would smaller, but if you set Max Radius to 1.5 hence wave handle would ever greater.
