Interior Design with Maya – Small Bed Room

This tutorial will show you how to create interior design with Autodesk Maya and rendering use mental ray.

1. Create base with polygon plane with size 3.5m X 2.5m (in Maya scene
I use 35 x 25 cm).

2. Create wall with polygon plane and shape like picture below.

3. Select every edge on side of object and bevel it.

5. Select wall object and extrude it.

6. Create window with polygon cube and create curtain with polygon plane or use curve and loft it.

7. Create bed, computer and furniture’s.

8. After finish modeling all stuff you must create layer for every object. Like wall object you must create layer for wall. Benefit create layer for every object is you can save render time. You will learn in render part after in end this tutorial.

9. For Lighting I use direction light for sun light and active shadow. Area light for mental ray emit photon. Don’t forget to check global illumination and final gather in render setting.

10. Select area light and see attribute editor > mental ray. You will see caustic and global illumination attribute. Check emit photons, adjust photon intensity (more big your scene you need more big photon intensity).

11. After you add lighting now time to render. If you have read step 8, this my explanation why you must create layer for every stuff.

12. Uncheck all layer except window, wall, floor and curtain and add material for every object.

13. Now time to render and see what we must edit.

14. After I see render result is too bright. I decided to edit floor material.

Floor material Before edited

Floor material After edited

15. And result after edit floor material

16. For another objects do it same technique like step 11 – 15. You must try render until you get nice result.

17. The final render using mental ray.
